Artist Mark draws on his talents to put Five Valleys on the map!

28 September 2020

The team from Five Valleys in Stroud town centre have called upon a local artist’s signwriting skills as part of the transformation of the shopping centre.

Mark Amis has spent the last few weeks working on artwork and signage across the centre using the traditional skill of signwriting.

Using a technique called “pouncing” to transfer an image onto the wall, Mark is working on striking welcoming and directional signage as well as an eye-catching new entrance feature for Stroud Bowl.

A fresh new Five Valleys brand was created as part of the major redevelopment of the former Merrywalks shopping centre and that is also a central part of Mark’s artwork.

Mark is originally from Swindon but has been based in Stroud for the last ten years, as well as signwriting he works on portraits and murals and says he is delighted to be playing his part in the regeneration of the town’s shopping centre.

He said: “I like to do everything in the traditional way and I’m really pleased to be working with the Dransfield and Five Valleys team on the signwriting project at the centre. It is quite a time-consuming project and the feedback from customers while I am working has been fantastic. It really is lovely to be able to play a part in the regeneration of the town which has become my home over the last decade.”

Mark is continuing his work on other areas of the centre over the next few weeks.  Centre Manager Dionne Moore said: “We are delighted to be working with Mark and the finished effect is just lovely. The signs look traditional but bright and fresh – just perfect for Five Valleys!”
