Chancellor visits DPL’s Five Valleys Shopping Centre development

8 November 2019

The Chancellor Sajid Javid visited Stroud’s Five Valleys shopping centre this morning to find out more about the major redevelopment programme which is underway in the town.
Five Valleys is currently undergoing a £30 million transformation of the previously run-down centre, creating a vibrant new retail destination in the heart of the town centre and attracting new businesses to Stroud.
The development is being brought forward by Sheffield based Dransfield Properties Ltd – Phase 3 of the ambitious project is on schedule to be completed next summer which involves a major upgrading of the multi-storey car park as well as a remodelled mall area, creating a new “Borough Market” style indoor market.
Project Director at Dransfield Properties Gavin Ward and Centre Manager Dionne Moore were joined by the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Conservative Party Siobhan Baillie. Mr Javid was shown the completed first phases as well as future plans for a new town centre GP surgery.
Completed phases of the development have seen the transformation of the interior of the car park as well as the King Street elevation at the centre, creating new retail units and apartments. JoJo Maman Bebe has recently opened in this part of the Five Valley’s development.
The Chancellor spent more than an hour looking around the centre and said how impressed he was with the future plans for Five Valleys and what had already been achieved at the centre.
Siobhan said: “I am thrilled to have an opportunity to show the Chancellor of the Exchequer around the brilliant Five Valleys shopping centre scheme as I am passionate about supporting Stroud’s High Streets. As the MP here I would continue to fight for more investment into the town.”
The Chancellor Sajid Javid added: “I thoroughly enjoyed spending the morning in Stroud with Siobhan. She’s doing a wonderful job of championing the redevelopment of the town centre, and attracting further investment into the community. I look forward to seeing the end result of her efforts!”
Gavin Ward added: “It was great to have the opportunity to talk the Chancellor this morning about the work we are doing in Stroud. We are incredibly proud of our town centre projects across the country and our plans here in Stroud will be truly transformational.”
GFirst LEP is providing a £1 million loan and a £3 million grant for the Five Valleys development. Once completed the project will elevate the town’s retail standing and attract a host of new businesses to Stroud as well as creating new residential and office units.
