MINISTER VISITS STROUD’S FIVE VALLEYS DEVELOPMENT

Robert Jenrick The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government visited Stroud’s Five Valleys shopping centre this week to see first-hand the major transformation which is underway in the town.
Five Valleys is owned by retail specialists Dransfield Properties Ltd who started work on a major programme of improvements at the centre last year.
The development, which is part funded by GFirst LEP, will attract a host of new businesses to the town and it is hoped it will be a catalyst for further investment to make town centre improvements.
The Managing Director Mark Dransfield was joined by Stroud’s Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Siobhan Baillie. The Minister also walked around the town to see how the Government could participate in the transformation of Stroud and improve its public realm and connectivity between the bus station, town centre and the railway station.
The latest phase of the Five Valleys development involves improvements to the multi storey car park including the installation of a green wall and the reconfiguration of the main mall area to deliver a new “Borough Market” style Market Hall.
The plans also include a new town centre Medical Centre as well as high quality office space and first floor apartments above the retail units.
The Minister praised the initiative of the team for the development’s green credentials which include a living wall on the multi-storey car park and solar panels which are due to be installed.
Siobhan Baillie said: “I have been pestering the Secretary of State for a while about Stroud and seeking Government investment in our High Streets so I was thrilled to see how impressed he was by what the town is doing. If elected, I will be in his office in the first week to see how we can progress applications for funding.”
Mark Dransfield said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to show the Minister first-hand what is being achieved here in Stroud and also discuss the Towns Fund which would enable further improvements in the town delivering jobs and investment.
“We have just secured £25 million for Stocksbridge in Sheffield and a similar sum in Stroud, which has a plan ready to go, would deliver major property environmental and public realm improvements to the town.”
“We have been delighted by the efforts of the local prospective Conservative Party candidate in lobbying her Ministers and Officers to participate in the regeneration of Stroud.”
