STROUD SHOPPING CENTRE IS POWERED UP WITH NEW ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING POINTS

18 April 2019

Brand new rapid electric charging points have been installed at Merrywalks car park in Stroud as part of the major programme of improvements at the centre.

The four new Instavolt charging points are the first to be installed in one of Stroud’s town centre car parks - they can be found near the main entrance by Halfords.

The initiative has been introduced by Dransfield Properties who own and manage the centre and have started on a major phased programme of improvements.

The first phase of the changes at Merrywalks – which is being re-branded as Five Valleys – has been at the multi storey car park, creating a much better environment for shoppers and visitors.

New lighting as well as flooring and barriers and a fresh new colour scheme have been introduced and the company is now working with InstaVolt on the installation of the new electric charging points for shoppers.

The new units give electric vehicle drivers access to the fastest and simplest charging available and are easy to access in the centre’s car park.

Centre Manager at Merrywalks, Dionne Moore, said: “We know that this is something that many of our customers will welcome and we are delighted to be able to offer this new rapid charging service to our shoppers and visitors.

“Minimising our impact on the environment is hugely important and helping to encourage the use of electric vehicles is a really big part of that.”

Neil Hopwood, Projects Manager for GFIRST LEP said: “GFirst LEP were delighted to support Dransfield in their plans to transform Merrywalks and part of that decision was their commitment to innovation and future proofing the centre to adapt to technological and social change.

The installation of these 4 charging points is a big step forward in that respect and will provide an important new facility in Stroud to support the transition towards electric vehicles.”

Tim Payne, CEO of Instavolt, added: “We’re installing rapid chargers all over the UK and its great news that Merrywalks in Stroud is now among these locations as part of the centre’s exciting programme of improvements.

“As more and more people drive electric vehicles, having a network of places where they can charge up en route, such as shopping centres, will be incredibly important.”

The InstaVolt service is available to use on a pay as you go basis, with no subscription or membership required.
Drivers simply tap their contactless credit or debit card, charge up and go. To find out more about InstaVolt visit www.instavolt.co.uk and to find out more about Dransfield Properties go to www.dransfield.co.uk

GFirst LEP is providing a £1 million loan and a £3 million grant to bring forward the redevelopment of the centre. Once completed the project will elevate the town’s retail standing and attract a host of new businesses to Stroud as well as creating new residential and office units.
